Laima Marchertas recently completed a five-week internship at the Jones!Lab from June 10 to July 13, 2025, as part of the Lithuanian International Student Services (LISS) program. LISS connects North American students of Lithuanian descent with professional opportunities in Lithuania, combining academic development with cultural immersion.
Â
During her time at the lab, Laima shadowed members of the Jones!Lab and gained hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid transformation and ethanol precipitation. She worked closely with Dr. Jonas Kubilius, who encouraged her to develop and refine her own protocol for ethanol precipitation. Laima also participated in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs, which deepened her scientific curiosity and strengthened her commitment to pursuing a career in the life sciences.Â
It was a pleasure having Laima in the lab, and we wish her all the best as she continues her journey in the life sciences!
